What is ATAP Program ?
The Solar ATAP (Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme) is Malaysia’s official national solar initiative for 2026. It replaced the older NEM 3.0 (Net Energy Metering) system on January 1st, 2026.
As an EPCC firm, it is important to explain to your clients that ATAP is a “Self-Consumption First” model. This means the primary goal is for the user to use the solar power they generate immediately, with the grid acting as a backup and a place to store “excess” energy for credits. The program follows a simple three-step cycle every day:
Export: Any extra energy you don’t use is sent back to the TNB grid. In exchange, TNB gives you bill credits.
Generate: Your solar panels produce energy from the sun.
Consume: Your building (home, factory, or farm) uses this energy first. This is “free” energy because you aren’t buying it from TNB.
